The Milbank 14U Junior Teeners baseball team chalked up a win and a loss during a double header in Brookings on Thursday, July 2. The games marked the end of the team’s shortened regular season.

Milbank captured a 9-6 victory in the opening game. The teams were even after two innings at 4-4. Milbank went ahead 6-5 after three innings, and secured the win with three more runs in the fourth.

Khayri Bergman led Milbank with three runs on three hits, including a home run in the fourth. He also had four stolen bases. Joe Schulte scored three runs on two hits and stole four bases. Josh Pederson, Jayce Jonason, Owen Tesch, and Reese Rabe constributed one hit each in the game.

In the second game, Milbank suffered a 5-8 loss. Brookings jumped ahead at 2-0 after the first inning. Milbank scored one run in the second and two in the third. Brookings added another run in the third to tie the score at 3-3. Brookings scored five runs in the fourth inning to go ahead at 8-3. Milbank came back with two runs in the fifth, but it was not enough.

Jackson Hausauer led the Junior Teeners with one run on three hits, including a double. Jonason and Jacob Shelstad each added two hits. Pederson, Schulte, Rylen Frerichs, and Daniel Shelstad each had one hit apiece.
