The Milbank VFW 16U Teener baseball team captured fourth place in the 2020 Class A 16U State Baseball tournament in Humboldt July 31 – August 2. The locals ended the season with a 11-9 overall record.

Milbank 8, KWL 0

Milbank shutout Kimball-White Lake, 8-0 in their opening game of the state tournament Friday, July 31. Kaden Krause threw a no hitter for six and two-thirds innings. He had reached his pitch limit for the day, so Cole Swenson came in and got the last out of the contest. Milbank plated one run in the third to be the first team on the scoreboard. They added three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to secure the shutout. Justus Osborn and Steve Ash led the team with two hits each. Krause, Merik Junker, Kellen Hoeke, Mike Karges, Isaac Schulte, and Karson Weber had one apiece. Krause surrendered zero runs on two hits and struck out seven batters to earn the win on the mound.

Milbank 5, Madison 12

Milbank faced a tough Madison Maroon team in semi-final action Saturday, August 1. The locals struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Madison, giving up 12 runs. Madison got things moving in the first inning with two runs. They added four in the third and three in the fourth. Milbank scored one run in the first and four in the third but was unable to produce additional runs. Madison continued its offensive surge with another lone run in the sixth and two in the seventh to seal the win.

Hoeke, Junker, Schulte, and Weber each collected a hit for Milbank. Osborn was on the mound for the Teeners. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Karges threw three and a third innings in relief.
