The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team started their 2020 season in Webster on Thursday, August 27. The tightly-contested match ended with a 3-0 road loss for Milbank.
Milbank got out to an early lead in the opening set, but eventually fell 21-25. In the second set, the Lady Bulldogs also suffered a 18-25 loss. In the third set, Milbank again took the early lead at 12-8 and 14-11, but Webster came back to tie up the score at 16-16. Webster took back the lead at 21-20 on a Milbank error.
The Lady Bulldogs then found themselves on the bottom end of the score at 20-23, when sophomore Casside Seezs belted out two back-to-back kills to help Milbank climb back to 22-23. Webster committed an error to even the score again at 23-23.
Errors by both teams kept things close and tied up the score for the last time at 27-27. An error by Milbank and a kill by Webster gave the Bearcats the 27-29 victory.
Madi Thue led the Lady Bulldogs’ attack with eight kills on 27-34 hitting. She posted 8-8 serving, seven digs, and one block. Siri Bien followed with seven kills on 19-24 hitting, 9-10 serving with two aces and one block. Seezs added four kills on 14-18 hitting, one ace on 10-10 serving, and nine digs. Jessica Van Peursem added two kills on 18-19 hitting, 19 assists on 67-72 setting, 8-9 serving, and six digs.
Hallie Schulte led the Milbank defense with 21 digs. She also added one kill on 2-2 hitting, one assist on 5-5 setting, and was 8-9 serving. Shelby Lee made one kill on 8-10 hitting, one assist on 13-13 setting, one block, and one dig. Joci McFarland contributed one kill on 4-5 hitting, one assist on 7-9 setting, 9-12 serving, and nine digs.
