The Lady Bulldogs are struggling to get into their groove. Their volleyball season record now stands at  0-4  after losses to Sisseton and Waverly-South Shore this past week.


“We have several girls with little to no varsity experience and we are working with different rotations and substitutions to see what is going to work for us,” said head coach Nancy Hoeke. “It has caused confusion at times, but we will get it worked out. The girls are staying positive and working hard.”


Milbank hosted Sisseton for their home opener on Thursday, September 3. The Lady Bulldogs fell 3-0 with set scores of 15-25, 22-25, and 17-25.


Madi Thue led the offense with seven kills on 29-33 hitting, 7-7 serving, 2-2
setting with one assist, one block, and 12 digs. Siri Bien had four kills on 20-26 hitting, 7-7 serving with one ace, and one dig.

 Casside Seezs, Shelby Lee, and Joci McFarland each added three kills apiece. Seezs added 11-16 hitting, 3-3 serving, 2-2 setting and three digs; Lee was 12-15 hitting and 4-4 setting; and McFarland 5-7 hitting, 26-27 setting with three assists, 3-5 serving, and one dig. Rachel Schulte was 12-16 hitting, 4-5 serving, 36-36 setting with 11 assists, and four digs. Jessica Van Peursem chipped in 8-9 hitting, 9-10 setting with two assists, 9-10 serving with one ace, and 13 digs.


Leading the Milbank defense was Hallie Schulte. She contributed 19 digs, 2-4 hitting, and 4-6 serving. Emily Wollschlager added 2-2 setting, 2-2 serving, and three digs. Jenna Dexter was 1-2 serving with one ace.


Milbank traveled to Waverly on Saturday, September 5. The Lady Bulldogs suffered a 3-0 loss to the Coyotes with scores of 17-25, 13-25, and 10-25.


Bien led the offense with five kills on 18-23 hitting and 4-5 serving. Seezs followed with three kills on 11-13 hitting, 4-4 setting, and one dig. Rachel Schulte added two kills on 13-14 hitting, six assists on 31-34 setting, 1-4 serving, and eight digs. Van Peursem added one kill on 4-5 hitting, 6-6 setting, 8-8 serving, and five digs. Taryn Dusky rounded out the offense
with one kill on 7-10 hitting, one assist on 1-1 setting, and one dig.


Hallie Schulte again led the defense with 20 digs. She also went 10-10 serving, 2-2 setting with two assists, and 4-4 hitting. Also contributing for the Lady Bulldogs were Thue, 15- 29 hitting, 5-6 serving, and seven digs; and McFarland who racked up 5-7 hitting, 22-24 setting with two assists, 6-6 serving, and two digs.
