The Lady Bulldogs tennis team faced two Rapid City schools at the Aberdeen Central tournament on Friday, September 18. Milbank fell 2-7 to Class AA Rapid City Stevens. But, the Lady Bulldogs’ No. 1 duo of Halli Essington and Hattie Muellenbach upset the Stevens No. 1 doubles team with a 10-8 victory.

 Milbank’s head tennis coach, Abbey Trapp,  said,  “We had some good matches. Our No. 1 doubles team pulled out a great win over the Stevens duo who had a record of 16-1.”

Milbank then battled the Class A team Rapid City Christian and suffered a 2-7 loss. Coach Trapp commented. “Even though the overall score does not show it, I am very pleased with how we played.”

Essington won both her singles matches. Muellenbach also collected a singles win against RC Christian.

Singles

1. Halli Essington defeated Emma Thurness, 10-6; 2. Hattie Muellenbach lost to Ali Scott, 10-0; 3. Jenna Johnson lost to Anna Mueller, 10-0; 4. Alexis Ninneman lost to Abby Sherrill, 10-0; 5. Hope Karels lost to Lylia Wiedmeier, 10-2; 6. Marion Mischel lost to Peyton Ogle, 10-0.

Doubles

1. Essington/Muellenbach won 10-8; 2. Johnson/Ninneman lost 10-2; 3. Karels/Mischel lost 10-1.

Milbank 2 – Rapid City Christian 7

Singles

1. Halli Essington defeated Riley Geyer, 8-0; 2. Hattie Muellenbach defeated Faith Eiklor, 8-2; 3. Jenna Johnson lost to Mia Shankle, 9-7; 4. Alexis Ninneman lost to Hannah Beckloff, 9-8 (7-3); 5. Hope Karels lost to Zeah Ryherd, 8-2; 6. Marion Mischel lost to Ciera Crawford, 8-3.

Doubles
1. Essington/Muellenbach lost 8-2; 2. Johnson/Ninneman lost 8-4; 3. Karels/Mischel lost 8-6.
