The Bulldogs’ boys golf team conducted a season-end awards meeting via Zoom to wrap up their 2020 season. Head coach Mark Keeton said, “I thought we made some big strides this year in spite of everything going on. Our team scores were much better compared to 2019. Last year, we did not crack the 400 mark. This year we went below 400 four different times and the totals would have been even better without Covid.”

At the Northeast Conference meet, Logan Meyer led the team with an 11th place finish (89).  Jake Trevett followed in 12th place (91). The team finished fourth with a score of 398.

The Dawgs took home fifth place from the Region 1A meet with a score of 397. Meyer again led the team at eighth place (90). Trevett placed 19th (96), and Jonathan DeBoer was 27th (101). All three qualified for the 2020 South Dakota State Class A Tournament.

Trevett was recognized as a three-time state qualifier. He finished tied for 44th place with a 180 at this year’s state meet. Meyer qualified for the first time as a senior and tied for 77th place (201). DeBoer, a seventh grader, was also a first-tme qualifier and placed 92nd with a 214.

“We lose four seniors this year,” lamented Keeton. “They will be tough to replace. We have a lot of young talent coming up, though, that will have an opportunity to take one of those varsity spots. I think those golfers willing to work hard during the summer will have the best shot at them. Next summer, we will continue the 100-hole club and the teenage scramble. I also plan to set up time for lessons.”

Bulldogs who earned a Major M for the 2020 season include: seniors Logan Meyer, Christian Peery, Jake Trevett, and Eric Van Sambeek; eighth grader Owen Fischer; and seventh grader Jonathan DeBoer.
