The Lady Bulldogs tennis team capped its 2020 season with an awards banquet on Thursday, November 12, at the high school.  Head coach Abbey Trapp presented Halli Essington and Jenna Johnson with senior awards for their contributions and years of dedication.

Essington was named the most dedicated player, and Johnson was given the quickest feet on the court award.  Both were also named to the 2020 South Dakota High School Activities Association Academic All-State Team for their achievements in the classroom.

Junior Alexis Ninneman was honored for her team leadership. Junior Hattie Muellenbach was recognized for her positive sportsmanship. Marion Mischel, also a junior, distinguished herself by having the craziest net play of the season. Freshman Aubrey Fraasch earned honors for being the most improved player.  Hope Karels received the hustle award.

Earning a Major M certificate were:  seniors Halli Essington and Jenna Johnson; juniors Alexis Ninneman, Hattie Muellenbach, and Marion Mischel; and freshmen Aubrey Fraasch and Hope Karels.

Highlights of the 2020 season included a fourth place finish in the team standings at the 2020 South Dakota State Class A girls tennis tournament, Essington’s runner-up finish at No. 1 singles, and consolation championship titles for Muellenbach and Ninneman. Johnson and Karels also each earned a sixth place finish. In doubles action at the state meet, Essington and Muellenbach teamed up for a third place award, and the duo of Johnson and Ninneman brought home fourth.
