Charles “Chuck” W. Benson, age 88, of Watertown, died on December 9, at Avantara in Milbank.

Services will be held at a later date.

Charles William Benson was born on June 6, 1932, at the family farm in Goodwin, SD, to Edgar and Goldie (Smothers) Benson. Chuck served as a military policeman in the US Army from 1952-1954. He married Anna Neal on August 24, 1956. Chuck and Anna lived in many states including: California, Missouri, Colorado, and Tennessee, but always returned to South Dakota, the place he loved the most. Chuck was involved in the printing business for all of his career. He operated a newspaper, and eventually owned print and copy shops in California.

Chuck belonged to the American Legion, the VFW, and served as a volunteer firefighter in Colton, SD. After retiring, Chuck and Anna travelled all over America in their RV. Chuck also “flipped” many houses, buying and fixing them up, and re-selling them for profit.  

Chuck is survived by his wife, Anna, of Watertown; daughter, Jackie Benson, of Corona, SD; son Jeff Benson, of Beaverton, OR; grandchildren: Stephanie Benson-Truong, of Fallbrook, CA; Chelsea Benson, of Beaverton, OR; Aaron Benson, of Beaverton, OR; sister, Ardis Olson, of Clear Lake, SD; and brother, Harold Benson, of Rancho Cordova, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Benson; brother, Vin Benson; and sisters: Irene Hopkins, Ardel Sample.
