The Milbank Bulldogs were defeated 51-32 by the Lennox Orioles on Saturday, December 12. The season-opener loss came during double-header basketball action on the road.
“Our boys played extremely well on all three levels,” stated head coach Logan Diede. “But, there’s a lot of work moving forward. We played a solid Lennox program that has been a staple in Class A the past five to seven years at least. We will improve every step of the way with buy-in from our young men. They are hungry and want to get better.”
Milbank got out to a good start and held a 7-4 lead after the opening quarter. Lennox came storming back and poured in 27 points in the second to take the lead at 31-19 at halftime. Both teams added 10 points to their totals in the third quarter. The Dawgs, however, were held to just three points in the final stanza. They fell 51-32.
Bennett Schwenn led the Bulldogs with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Mason Riley followed with eight points, nine rebounds, and one steal. Will Cummins tallied six points and three boards. Ryker Trevett made four points, one rebound, and one assist. Garrett Mertens chipped in three points and one board. Stevie Ash had two points. Justus Osborn added four rebounds to complete the team totals.
Milbank made 24 percent of their shots from then field, hitting 12 of 50 attempts. The Bulldogs made just 2-of-23 from three point land, but dunked 7-of -9 from the charity stripe. The Dawgs ended the game with 25 rebounds, three assists, and one steal. They were charged with seven turnovers.
Lennox made 21-of-49 attempts from the field for 43 percent shooting. The Orioles ended the game with 42 rebounds, seven assists, and one blocked shot. They committed 12 turnovers.
