Rita Vreim

Rita Christine Vreim, age 86, of Wilmot SD, passed away on Dec 17, 2020, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.

Due to Covid concerns, services will be held at a later date.

Rita Martell was born October 4, 1934, in Milbank SD.  She was the 7th of 11 children born to Edward and Anna (Schwartz) Martell.

Rita married Harold Wittrock June 5, 1949, in Browns Valley MN.  To this union seven children were born.  They resided in Milbank all their married life of 25 years.  Harold passed away suddenly on March 10, 1975.  Leaving Rita to raise the last three children alone.

Rita married Marlowe Vreim on August 18, 1979.  She moved with Marlowe and her two sons to a farm Northwest of Wilmot, SD.  They farmed and spent their retired life there for 41 years. Rita was a homemaker and self-taught seamstress; she enjoyed sewing for her family.  In later years, she made many quilts.  She also loved to crochet, garden, read books and attend family get togethers.

Rita is survived by her husband, Marlowe Vreim of Wilmot, SD; and her children: Vicki (Sid) Munson of Tea, SD; Terry (Christie) Wittrock of Milbank, SD; Debra (Wayne) Tschetter of Huron, SD; Marty (Joyce) Wittrock of Wilmot SD; and Tracy (Angela) Wittrock of Watertown SD; 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Norma (Wayne) Steinocker of Sioux Falls, SD. Rita was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold; her parents; all ten of her siblings; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Debra Wittrock; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Reed Birney; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one sister-in-law, Janice Vreim.
