The Milbank Middle School, led by the student council, hosted their annual penny war competition. The council set a goal to raise $1,500. With an anonymous matching fund donation, the group raised over $3,000 to purchase gifts for the Angel Tree. Some of the funds will also be used for clothing assistance needs during the remainder of the school year.

“The kids did a wonderful job,” says counselor Heidi Wellnitz. “it was a tough year. With the middle school on distance learning for the first couple of weeks of the competition, we were a little worried, but they pulled it off and then some. We could not be prouder of our kids and their giving hearts.” Mr. Schmeichel’s sixth grade class raised the most money.

Student council members include: (l. to r.)  Jazmynne Ronke, Isaac Schlueter, Sean Keeton, Preston Laskowski, Isabella Schmitz, Johana Jimenez, Tate Schlueter, Ruth Luis Gomez, Mason Meister, Collin Phinney, Kenadee Mueller, Ryan O’Farrell, Tyra Berry, and Rylee Scoular.
