The Milbank Lady Bulldogs captured their first win of the 2020-2021 girls basketball season by upending Tiospa Zina 55-35 Tuesday, December 29, at Agency Village. The win moves Milbank’s season record  to 1-3.

“It feels good to get our first win of the season,” stated head coach Brian Pauli. “We are starting to see positive results from the hard work the girls have been putting in. It was nice to see the ball go in the basket. I
thought we moved the ball well, which resulted in higher percentage shots. I also thought our defense forced turnovers which helped with the scoring. Maurina (Street) had a big night. It has been a while since we have had a girl with that many points in a game.”

Milbank got out to a 17-6 lead after the opening quarter of play. The locals widened the gap to 29-14 at the midway mark. Tiospa Zina played closely with Milbank throughout the third period, but Milbank remained ahead 42-26 heading into the final stanza. The Lady Bulldogs held on for the victory.
Street led the team with 27 points. She also grabbed three rebounds, had five steals, and three assists. Isabella Anderson scored 12 points. She also contributed three rebounds, three steals, and one assist. Madi Thue chipped in with eight points, four boards, three assists, and one steal. Lindsey Mertens added four points, three assists, and two steals. Tyra Berry tallied two points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Emily Wollschlager had two points.

Also adding to the team totals were:  Ellie Neugebauer, three rebounds and one assist; Tatum Berry, two assists; Jenna Dexter, one rebound; and Averie Engebretson, one steal.

Milbank made 54 percent of their shots from the field, firing in 23-of-43 attempts. The Lady Bulldogs collected the victory with 22 rebounds, 22 steals, and 19 assists. They committed 15 turnovers.

Tiospa Zina hit 15-of-32 from the field for 47 percent shooting. The Wambadi ended the game with 22 rebounds, 14 steals, and 14 assists. They committed 24 turnovers.
