Milbank lost a tough contest to Dell Rapids, 43-91 on Saturday, January 16, on the road. The Bulldogs season record fell to 3-4.

“Dell Rapids has a quality program,” stated Milbank’s head coach, Logan Diede. “They have one of the best varsity squads in the state, and they displayed that Saturday. I’m proud of how our boys kept talking, competing, and being good teammates. That will be huge for our success the rest of the season. There’s no quit in these Bulldogs!”

Dell Rapids came out hot and poured in 31 points in the first quarter and 32 in the second. Milbank trailed 19-63 at halftime. Milbank came back to outscore the Quarriers in the third period, but remained behind at 35-73 heading into the final stanza.

Will Cummins led the Dawgs with 18 points and four rebounds. Bennett Schwenn followed with 11 points and three rebounds. Mason Riley collected five points and grabbed two boards. Ryker Trevett, Garrett Mertens, Aiden Foell, and Tanner Mertens each scored two points. Wylie Mursu hit one.

Milbank shot 16-of-44 from the field for 36 percent shooting. The Bulldogs ended the game with 28 rebounds, six steals, and five assists. They were charged with 18 turnovers.

Dell Rapids fired in 64 percent of their shots, hitting 36-of-56 from the field. They also dropped in 8-of 14 from three-point land. The Quarriers ended the game with five players in double figures. They also grabbed 26 rebounds, had 11 assists, pulled off 18 steals, and committed just seven turnovers.
