Milbank put up a fight in Dell Rapids in girls basketball action on Saturday, January 16, on the road. The Lady Bulldogs lost the game by only five points after staging a strong comeback late in the second half. Ultimately, turnovers cost them the game.

“We cannot turn the ball over as much as we did,” said Milbank’s head coach Brian Pauli. “Even to be in a competitive game, when we had 27 turnovers, was surprising. This is definitely an area we have to improve on if we want to win games.”

Milbank scored just two points in the first quarter and trailed 10-2. The reverse took place in the second period when Dell Rapids dropped in just two points, but the Lady Bulldogs remained behind 10-12 at halftime. 
In the third period, the Quarriers increased their lead to 27-17. In the fourth, Milbank was hitting on all cylinders and  fired in 20 points, but the clock ran out before they could claim the victory. 

Maurina Street led the Lady Bulldogs with a double-double. She dropped in 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. She also added four assists and five steals. Isabella Anderson followed with 13 points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Tyra Berry tallied six points, four boards, and two assists. Tatum Berry had two points and four rebounds.

Also adding to the team totals for Milbank were:  Madi Thue, three rebounds, two steals, and one assist; Lindsey Mertens, three rebounds and two assists; and Ellie Neugebauer, one rebound and one steal.

The Lady Bulldogs hit 16-of-44 from the field for 36 percent shooting. They snared 36 rebounds and had 22 steals and 10 assists. They committed 27 turnovers.

Dell Rapids made 30 percent of their shots from the field, connecting on 13-of-44 attempts. The Quarriers ended the game with 32 rebounds, 26 steals, and eight assists. They also racked up a high number of turnovers —22.
