The Lady Bulldogs earned their third win of the season with a 41-33 victory over Northeast Conference opponent Deuel.  Milbank’ s win came in doubleheader basketball action at the Milbank Armory on Tuesday, January 26.

“I thought we started the game doing some good things,” stated Milbank’s head coach, Brian Pauli. “Then we hit a lull and stopped making shots. That let Deuel back into the game. I give credit to the girls for hanging in there and making the plays when they needed to preserve the win.”

Milbank claimed a 13-5 advantage after the opening quarter and maintained their lead at 19-11 at halftime. The Cardinals outscored Milbank in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 25-19, but Milbank came back to pour in 16 points in the final period to secure the 41-33 victory. 

Isabella Anderson and Lindsey Mertens led the charge late in the game with significant steals and baskets when the Lady Bulldogs needed them most.  Maurina Street produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and snaring 10 rebounds. She also made one assist.  Anderson made nine points, and added an assist and four steals. Mertens tallied six points, four boards, two assists, and three steals.  Madi Thue put up four points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Tatum Berry contributed three points, five rebounds, one assist, and two steals Tyra Berry added three rebounds, and Claire Snaza, one.

Milbank hit 16-of-51 from the field for 31 percent shooting. The locals grabbed 45 rebounds, and had eight assists and 15 steals. They committed 14 turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs improved their season record to 3-10 with the win.

Deuel connected on 23 percent of their shots from the field, making 11-of-47 attempts. The Cardinals recorded 35 rebounds, seven assists, 13 steals, and 15 turnovers.
