The MHS gymnastics team is headed to the South Dakota State Class A meet on February 12. The Lady Bulldogs punched their ticket by completing outstanding performances at the Region 1A meet and satisfying pre-qualification standards. The top nine Class A teams advance to the state tournament.

At the regional meet, the Lady Bulldogs moved to fifth in the Class A team standings with a score of 131.60. All six varsity gymnasts also will appear in the state meet’s individual competition.

Gymnasts set to represent Milbank include: Greta Snaza (vault, bars, beam, floor, all-around), Madison Mathews (vault, bars, floor), Dani Yamaura (vault, bars, beam, floor, all-around), Rylie Overby (vault), Aubrey Fraasch (vault, bars, beam, floor, all-around), and Hannah Brown (vault).

“Class A will only have one day of competition this year,” explained Milbank’s head coach, Amber Fraasch. “Both the team and individual results will be based on the same performance on Friday, February 12.”
The meet, which will be held in Watertown, begins at 1:45 p.m. Milbank will compete in Pod No. 2 along with Estelline/Hendricks, Chamberlain, and Wall/Kodoka/Phillip and Sisseton.

Region 1A Meet Recap Milbank took fourth at the Region 1A meet in Clear Lake on Thursday, February 4, with a team score of 131.60. “We were looking for a third place finish,” said Fraasch. “A tough beam day prevented us from reaching our goal.” Deuel was crowned the region champ; Madison was the runner-up.

Milbank had to count four falls on beam. Yamaura led the team with a sixth place finish and a score of 8.70. “We have been having nice beam sets the last couple of meets. We will have to attack this event at state in order to place both as a team and individually,” added Fraasch.

Yamaura hit a solid floor routine and placed fifth with an 8.950. The Lady Bulldogs saw better execution on vault, including some stuck landings. Overby tied her personal best score of 8.50 and Snaza earned fifth place with a score of 9.05.

Clean routines led to Milbank’s third highest bar event total of the season. Brown tied her personal best score of 6.950. A. Fraasch hit her highest score of the season to earn fifth place with a 8.15. Yamaura led the team with a seventh place all-around finish of 34.00.

The Region 1A meet also doubled as the Northeast Conference meet. Deuel was crowned the NEC champion and Milbank was the runner-up.
