Residents at Avantara in Milbank celebrated an entire week of Valentine activities, which culminated in a Valentine’s Day party on Sunday, February 14. Earl Bohlen and Mavis Bjella were chosen king and queen during their coronation ceremony, and everyone enjoyed special sweets, frozen punch, bingo, and listening to their favorite love songs. A display of red balloons and holiday decorations punctuated the party room.
Earlier in the week, residents had watched a movie and snacked on kettle corn and homemade Valentine cookies, played bingo, and spent time reminiscing. On Thursday — also National Peppermint Patty Day— participants enjoyed music and peppermint candy on ice cream. Friday was set aside to create Valentine’s Day cards and heart sun catchers and to learn about the legend of St. Valentine.
Tammy DeWald, activities director at Avantara, says activities this week include: ”Celebrating President’s Day with bingo and music; a Mardi Gras party with trivia, music and snacks; Random Acts of Kindness Day; and a spa day featuring winter skin relief for hands and nails.
