Toby Schneck Regional Wrestling Champ; Six Grapplers Punch Ticket to State Tourney

Six Milbank wrestlers punched their tickets to the State Class A wrestling tournament slated for February 25-27 in Rapid City. The Bulldogs were led by senior Toby Schneck who won the championship title at 195 pounds. He pinned the No. 1 seed Noah Hutmacher from Chamberlain in 3:56. 

“Toby did what he was capable of doing and got the job done,” stated Milbank’s head coach Jeremy Tostenson. “That win was huge for Toby and he deserves that.”

Also earning a trip to the 2021 state tournament are Jacob Johnson (113 pounds), Brayden Christensen (132 pounds), Kaden Krause (138 pounds), Barrett Schneck (152 pounds), and Leyton Raffety (170 pounds). Christensen, B. Schneck, and Raffety each finished third. Johnson and Krause took fourth place. The top four in each weight class advance to the state meet.

Milbank finished sixth in the team standings with 123 points. Pierre was named the Region 3A champion with 249. Mitchell was the runner-up with 225. Chamberlain was third with 163, Aberdeen Central took fourth with 147, and Huron was fifth with 137. Cheyenne-Eagle-Butte/Dupree rounded out the team standings with 19 points.

132 – Brayden Christensen fell by a 14-6 major decision to Kahlor Hindman, Pierre; won by fall against Colt Dunkelberger, Huron, :25; won 7-0 against Bryce Reuer, Chamberlain. Third place finish.
138 – Kaden Krause won by fall against Cole Ochsner, Huron, 3:34; fell 9-3 to Hayden Shaffer, Pierre; won 7-1 against Riley McGinnis, Mitchell; lost 6-4 to Thomas Powell, Chamberlain. Fourth place finish.
145 – Jesse Schneck fell 7-1 to Conner Thelen, Mitchell; won by forfeit; lost by fall to Kaiser Ruth, Huron, 1:57; won by fall over Cameron Dekle, CEB, :19. Fifth place finish.
152 – Barrett Schneck won by fall against Beau Price, AC, 1:42; fell 11-4 to Deegan Houska, Pierre; won by 8-0 major decision against Beauty Moon, Huron; won 6-0 over Trey Neilan, Chamberlain. Third place finish.
160 – Paul Van Dover lost by fall to Jayden Wiebe, Pierre, :58; lost by fall to Garret Ristau, Chamberlain, :18; lost by fall to Ayden Gisi, AC, :29.  Sixth place finish.
170 – Leyton Raffety won by 10-0 major decision against Swade Reis, Chamberlain; lost by fall to Samuel Calvert, AC, 4:49; won by 12-2 major decision against Lucas Chamberlain, Pierre. Third place finish.
182 – Nick Trevett lost by fall to Hunter Stambach, CEB, :14; lost by fall to Gavin Stotts, Pierre, 1:33; lost by fall to Dylan Schaunaman, AC, :47. Sixth place finish.
