The Lady Bulldogs basketball team ended its season by falling to the Redfield Lady Pheasants, 59-24 in the second round of the Region 1A tournament on Thursday, February 25. “We knew going into this game we had to play our best game of the season. Obviously, that didn’t happen,” stated Milbank’s head coach, Brian Pauli.
The Lady Bulldogs got out to a slow start and trailed 19-7 after the first quarter. Both teams struggled to produce points in the second period, and the Lady Bulldogs remained behind at 27-12 at the midway mark. After three periods, Redfield held a commanding lead at 41-20 and victory remained out of reach for the Lady Bulldogs.
Isabella Anderson led Milbank with 11 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Tyra Berry followed with eight points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one blocked shot. Maurina Street tallied three points, five rebounds, and two steals. Lindsey Mertens added two points and one assist.
Also adding to the totals for Milbank were: Madi Thue, two rebounds and three steals; Tatum Berry, two rebounds and two steals; Claire Snaza, one rebound; and Ellie Neugebauer, three rebounds.
Milbank scored on 9-of-58 shots from the field for just 16 percent. The Lady Bulldogs grabbed 35 rebounds, had two assists, 12 steals, and one blocked shot. They committed just six turnovers.
Redfield made 42 percent of their shots from the field, hitting 21-of-50. The Pheasants wrapped up the win with 49 rebounds, 16 assists, five steals, and two blocked shots. They committed 13 turnovers.
