Susan Joy McMahon was born on January 31, 1948, to Leonard and Clarice (Selgeby) Hagedorn in Albany, OR. At the age of eight, her family relocated to Nassau, MN. Susan attended school in Revillo, SD. In 1963, Susan was united in marriage with Gerald “Joe” McMahon. The couple made their home in Big Stone City, SD.

Susan worked in customer service and enjoyed talking with people and hearing about their day. She worked for Sears in Milbank and Ortonville for many years. Susan also worked as a waitress at the Ortonville Municipal Golf Clubhouse and as a cashier at Carlson’s Gas Station. For the past 25 years, she worked at Bill’s Supervalu in Ortonville until her retirement in 2019.

Susan enjoyed flea-marketing for more than 35 years. She and Joe cherished their time together selling antiques and meeting new people who appreciated antiques and collectibles. Susan loved going to auctions and rummage sales looking for unique items to purchase for flea-marketing. She was also an avid collector of antique glassware and was very proud to display her more exceptional pieces in her home. On an annual basis, Susan and Joe spent their summers travelling throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa, vending their antique items. They enjoyed bringing their dog, Mickey, with them to flea-markets where he captured the attention of children and adults, alike. Susan loved Mickey as if he was the fifth son in the family.

Susan and Joe delighted in travelling across the United States over the years: having seen 37 states together. She especially enjoyed driving to Illinois to visit her parents and her sisters. Susan loved to play Bingo as often as possible and to watch her favorite television shows: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Her greatest pride was her family and she valued every moment spent with her husband, her sons, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Susan was an excellent cook and always made sure to prepare a feast for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter dinners.

Susan is survived by her husband, Joe of Big Stone City, SD; her four sons: Marty McMahon of Pierre, SD; Jerry McMahon (Jodi Heida) of Big Stone City, SD; Dan McMahon of Marietta, MN; and Scott McMahon (Kerri Hamann) of Brandon, SD; grandsons: Dylan McMahon and Preston McMahon; granddaughters: Lucinda Oakes, Carissa McMahon, Lindsey McMahon, and Kaycie DeGeest; great-grandchildren: Wilson, Clara, Brodee, Brydger, Tatum, and Carter; sisters: Shirley Richardson of Dell Rapids, SD; and Darla (Gary) Leek of Belvidere, IL; along with many nieces and nephews.
