Lester Bloem, a retired math teacher, addressed the Milbank School District Board of Education during its regular meeting on Monday, March 8. Bloem spoke during the community input session of the meeting.

Bloem, who retired three years ago after teaching math in the Milbank School District for over 40 years, voiced his concerns about the lack of in-person calculus, probabilities, or statistics classes in the school curriculum since his departure. “I feel the students, especially the seniors, need these classes in preparation for college,” Bloem said. “I believe in-person classes are the most beneficial, and the district has several certified math teachers on staff, including Superintendent Justin Downes.”  Bloem said he hopes the board will look into the deficiency and bring those classes back.
