The Milbank High School gymnastics team celebrated an outstanding 2020-2021 season with an awards ceremony on Monday, March 1.
The 2020-2021 team now holds five of the top seven team scores in school history, including the second (133.000), fourth (132.050), fifth (131.750), sixth (131.600), and seventh (131.475) high scores. The team record of 134.325 points was set in 2019.

The 2020-2021 team also holds multiple top ten totals in all four events.  Seven of their 11 floor event totals made the top 15 in school history.  The record of 36.200 was set in 2016 and the second highest of 36.025 set in 2019.  This season’s team now holds the third, fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, eleventh, and fourteenth — five of the top ten — floor event totals in MHS history.

If you compare this team’s average with other years, you might need to add an asterisk. The 2020-2021 team’s average was 128.939. It is the second highest average in school history, second only to the record-setting 2019 season.   But according to coach Amber Fraasch, this is the entire season average, including the meets they had to go four up, four count. Due to COVID, they had four meets like that this year.  She says, “If you remove those four meets, our average jumps to 131.22 points, which would beat our highest average in school history by 1.31 points.  So, in a normal season we would have blown away the team average record.”

For individual awards, freshman Aubrey Fraasch was chosen the most dedicated gymnast by her teammates. Senior Greta Snaza was chosen the hardest worker, and eith grader Hannah Brown was deemed the most improved.

The coaches voted to give the Coaches Award and the Senior Award to Greta Snaza, and the Rookie of the Year to Hannah Brown.
