The Milbank School Board of Education approved driver’s education classes for the summer of 2021. The vote passed during the regular meeting of the board on Monday, March 8.

“Driver’s education was canceled last summer due to Covid. Therefore, we anticipate a much higher number of students this summer,” said Superintendent Justin Downes. “There will likely be three instructors to help ease the number of driving hours, due to the increase in students.”

Instructors include Jackson Graf, Janelle Korstjens, and Jena Schultke.
Registration began on Thursday, March 11.  High school students were given packets. Distance learners can pick up packets from the school office or by contacting Mr. Graf.

Registration for eighth graders begins on Wednesday, March 24. They will meet with Mr. Graf on March 23.  Distance learners can pick up forms at the middle school office beginning March 23.

The class costs $250. The first session is scheduled for May 25 – June 11. Classroom instruction runs May 25 – 28 and behind-the-wheel instruction from May 31 – June 11.

The second session is scheduled for June 14 – July 1.  Classroom instruction goes from June 14-17 and behind-the-wheel instruction from June 18 – July 1.

There will be approximately 28 students in the first session and 24 students in the second. Spaces for additional students can be created if needed. The summer schedule with additions could accommodate from 72 to 88 students.
