The Milbank Bulldog wrestling team wrapped up its season with an awards ceremony March 11 at the high school.
Awards were given to individuals based on voting by the team and the coaches selections. The Most Valuable Junior Varsity Wrestler Award was given to junior Maddox Hanson, who completed his first year of wrestling. Freshman Landon Novy was named the Rookie of the Year. The Most Improved Wrestler Award went to sophomore Brayden Christensen. Senior Toby Schneck was named the Most Valuable Wrestler. Junior Leyton Raffety was named the Most Valuable Teammate.
Sophomore Barrett Schneck earned the Pinner Award. He had 21 pins this season. The Justin Maass Spirit Award was presented to senior Logan Meyer.
Perfect Practice Attendance certificates were given to Logan Meyer, Kaden Krause, Nick Trevett, and Landon Novy. Seniors Logan Meyer and student manager Siri Bien were named to the 2021 Academic All-State Team for their accomplishments in the classroom. To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher and be involved in the sport for three seasons. The award is sponsored by the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association.
Wrestlers earning a Major M include; seniors Toby Schneck and Logan Meyer; juniors Kaden Krause, Maddox Hanson, Leyton Raffety, and Nick Trevett; sophomores Brayden Christensen, Barrett Schneck, Anthony St. Martin, and Paul Van Dover; freshmen Jayden Johnson, Jacob Johnson, and Landon Novy; eighth graders Joe French, Jayce Jonason, Tate Schlueter, Jesse Schneck, and Nollen Sheeley; and student mangers Siri Bien, Hallie Schulte, and Addisyn Krause.
Minor M award winners were freshman Carter Boerger and eighth graders Owen Fischer, Oliver Korth, Reese Rabe, and Owen Tesch.
