Marcia Sandro, age 84, of Ortonville, died March 13 at the Ortonville Area Hospital.

Marcia Dawn Sandro was born on March 19, 1936, in Sisseton, SD, Gustav and Rosy (Moen) Sandro. She grew up in New Effington, SD, and moved with her family to Big Stone City, SD, and lived there until 1960. Marcia graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1953.

Marcia attended General Beadle State Teacher’s College in Madison, SD, and earned a teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Milbank before moving to Ortonville, where she taught fifth grade for 35 years. She earned a Master’s degree in History from the University of Minnesota. Marcia was a long-time member of the Minnesota Education Association.

Marcia was an avid reader, and had an extensive library at her home. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. She was honored by the City of Ortonville in recognition of her community service. Marcia enjoyed traveling around the United States, and was able to travel to Ireland.

Marcia Sandro is survived by: brother, Grant (Sharon) Sandro of Chico, CA; nieces and nephews: Britt Barnes of Maple Grove, MN; Jessica (Brian) Miller of Moorehead, MN;  Nathan (Angie) Sandro of Chico, CA; and Hillary (Brian Teter) Sandro of Fairbanks, AK.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Keith Sandro, and niece Kiersten Rausch.
