The Bulldogs’ boys basketball team presented season-end awards to wrap up their 2020-2021 season. Awards were voted on by the players at each level – varsity, junior varsity, and C-team. 

Coach Logan Diede also recognized achievements earned by the players and this year’s team. Senior Will Cummins finished his career with 130 three-pointers. Cummins in now tied for second place in MHS history with Mike Paulson. (Jonny Ash remains in first with 173.). Cummins was also named to the third All-Northeast Conference team, and Bennett Schwenn was named to the first team.

The 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons marked the first back-to-back winning seasons for the boys program since the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons. 

Wylie Mursu was presented with the Most Improved Player Award on the varsity team. Ryker Trevett received the Juice Man Award for bringing the most consistent and contagious enthusiasm and energy to the program. Tanner Mertens received the Teammate Award for best setting an example of how to be an excellent role model and displaying the qualities of a great teammate. Bennett Schwenn earned the Bulldog Award for being the player who was consistently the best performing player during practices and competitions.

On the junior varsity team, Wylie Mursu was also presented with the Most Improved Player Award. Karson Weber received the Juice Man Award and the Teammate Award. Garrett Mertens received the Bulldog Award.
Joe Schulte received the Most Improved Player Award on the C Team. Nathan Pillatzki received the Juice Man Award. Max Lightfield earned the Teammate Award and the Bulldog Award.

Major M letter winners for the season include: Seniors-  Will Cummins, Carter Hartman, Mason Riley, and Tanner Mertens.  Juniors –  Bennett Schwenn, Ryker Trevett, and Stevie Ash. Sophomore – Justus Osborn. Freshman –  Garrett Mertens. Student managers – Shelby Lee, Jenna Johnson, Drake Rogers, Amber Unzen, Jacob Shelstad, and Sammy Femling. Statisticians  – Julia Wiik, Casside Seezs, and Nadia Schneck.
