The Milbank track and field team competed against several Class AA teams in the Huron Invitational on Friday, April 9, and, at the same time, shook up the record book for MHS. According to Eric Townsend, head coach for the Bulldogs, “There were a number of outstanding performances.”

Junior Bennett Schwenn won the triple jump and broke his own school record with a jump of 45 feet 7.5 inches. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84, which also places him at third in MHS varsity boys’ team history. He finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.83, which ranks sixth as a record for the Bulldogs.

Senior Greta Snaza took second at the meet and broke the school record that she had set in the pole vault with a leap of 9 feet 6 inches. Junior Nick Batchelor’s 1,600-meter run time of 4:36.83 earned him a third-place finish at the meet and put him at seventh in the Milbank varsity boys’ record book. He also brought home a first-place finish in the 800-meter run.

The pole vaulting trio of Maggie Kruger, Ashlynn Batchelor, and Jacy Dexter now ranks sixth in the MHS varsity girls’ record book. They each vaulted six feet. The vaults by Batchelor and Dexter double as records for Milbank’s seventh grade. Ashlynn Batchelor broke Milbank’s seventh-grade girls’ 800-meter record with a time of 2:35.45 and took third place at the meet in the 1600-meter run.

Also at the meet, Ellie Neugebauer took first in the 400-meter dash, Greta Snaza took second in the pole vault competition, and Rachel Schulte earned third in the high jump.

Ryker Trevett took second place in the shot put competition, and Karson Weber earned third in the pole vault. The 800-meter relay team of Dustin Gertsema, Sawyer Gauer, Aidan Foell, and Bennett Schwenn brought home a third-place finish.

In addition to the highlights above, the list below contains dozens of other great finishes by the Bulldogs. Coach Townsend says, “We have an opportunity for an outstanding season based upon where we are right now.”
