Whetstone Valley Strings students performed in a spring recital on Sunday, May 20, at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Meg Sholberg, guest violist from Ortonville, joined the group pieces and performed with Rosa and Anika Olson. Megan Tschetter was also a guest violinist.
Musicians recognized for their achievements included: Twinkle Graduation – Sabine Hicks, Stella Pulling, Alana Wipf, and Carrie Wipf; Half Book 1 Review – Fischer Hawley; Book 1 Graduation Recital – Anika Olson; Book 2 Graduation Recital – Rosa Olson; superior rating at Middle School Contest – Caitlyn Frerichs, Anika Olson, Teaneashea Vogel; Middle School All-State Orchestra/SD Select Strings – Veronica Fonder; SDHSAA All-State Orchestra – Nicholas Fonder, Joseph Schulte, and Rachel Schulte; SDSTA Honors Orchestra – Rachel Schulte.
Whetstone Valley Strings is a Suzuki-based studio in Milbank, using the philosophy and method books of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Japanese violinist and founder of the Talent Education movement. Mrs. Schulte has master’s degrees in violin performance and string pedagogy from The Ohio State University and has done Suzuki training at institutes in Columbus, OH, Ithaca, NY, and Washington, D.C.
