Milbank Post 9 American Legion baseball team opened their season at home with a blowout win against the American Legion Post 40 team from Webster on Tuesday, June 1. Milbank scored 15 runs in just four innings to defeat Webster 15-0. 

Milbank got off to a quick start in the first inning by scoring five runs after Micah Dietmeier struck out two batters in the top of the first inning. They tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second sparked by an RBI double from Kellen Hoeke. 

Milbank went on to tally four more runs in the bottom of the third led by a two-RBI single from Merik Junker which scored Swenson and Dietmeier and an RBI single from Stevie Ash that scored Hoeke. The game ended early in the bottom of the fourth after Milbank’s Post 9 batted in four more runs led by RBI doubles from Sage Locke and Justus Osborne. The 15-run mercy rule was then invoked. 

Micah Dietmeier received the win on the mound after pitching three innings and striking out five batters. He allowed only three hits. Kaden Krause relieved Dietmeier in the top of the fourth and struck out the side. 

Post 9’s offense was led by Kellen Hoeke, who recorded two hits and four RBIs, and Justus Osborne, who also had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Kaden Krause, Cole Swenson, Merik Junker, Stevie Ash, Sage Locke, Parker Schell, and Aiden Rabe all added a hit for the locals. Dietmeier drew four walks and scored four runs. 
Milbank’s Post 9 will be back in action on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 4-6, when they host the Arnold Larson Memorial Tournament.
