The Milbank Area Swim Team (MALST) took 29 Sea Lions to compete in the Watertown swim meet at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center on June 12-13. Two Milbank swimmers... Johnson and Korth Awarded Swimmer of the Meet Awards in Watertown

The Milbank Area Swim Team (MALST) took 29 Sea Lions to compete in the Watertown swim meet at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center on June 12-13. Two Milbank swimmers were chosen for the Swimmer of the Meet awards. Laura Johnson was selected as the Swimmer of the Meet for the 11-and-over group. MALST head coach, Jodi Street, said, “Laura is a great teammate. She is always there to cheer kids on and never complains in practice. Her dedication to the swim team is top notch always willing to help out with younger group session. Laura achieved significant time cuts for an older swimmer in 6 events and tackled the 200 backstroke which is not her favorite thing to swim but she is always willing to try any event.”

Adrienne Korth earned the Swimmer of the Meet for the 10-and-under group. Street commented, “Adrienne works very hard in practice and has achieved legal times in all 4 strokes this season. She dropped a total time of 90 seconds off 5 events and swam 3 additional new events.”

Coach Street, said, “Seven of our new younger swimmers competed for the first time and they did fantastic. Thomas Bass and Mason Pauli both captured multiple first-place finishes.”
Coach Street said she was doubly impressed. “Our 10-and under group didn’t even practice last season. To achieve significant time cuts this early in the season is awesome.”

Zoee Henrich, Korth, Livia Wollschlager, Liam Street, Isabella Pauli, Hope Karels, Maurina Street, Amaya Street, and Savanna Osowski all set new MALST records.  Ryan Steffen was the top time cutter for the Sea Lions. He dropped one minute and seven seconds from his 100-meter freestyle time. Liam Street, Logan Dexter, M. Street, Osowski, and A. Street also recorded 29 state-qualifying swims.
