The Milbank Area Sea Lions hosted their 40th Annual Milbank Invitational on June 18-19 at Unity Health and Fitness. According to head coach, Jodi Street, Milbank swam 37 state-qualifying swims and broke 12 MALST records. 

Records were set by: TyLynn Wellnitz in the 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter freestyle, and 200-meter freestyle; Bailee Hendricks in the 100IM, Liam Street in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter freestyle; Avery Schuneman in the 100IM; Maddox Hanson in the 200-meter freestyle; Amaya Street in the 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle, and 200IM; and Savanna Osowski in the 100-meter butterfly. 

Swimmers who punched their ticket to the state championship meet included: Logan Dexter, Emmett Hanson, Maddox Hanson, William Karels, Liam Street, Amaya Street, Savanna Osowski, Maurina Street, and TyLynn Wellnitz.  

Top time cutters were: Brooke Hendricks, Maddox Hanson, Kaitlyn Krause, Adison Pauli, Mason Pauli,  Kennedi Sayler, Liam Street, Kylynn Schwandt, and TyLynn Wellnitz.  

Logan Dexter, 10, was selected as the Swimmer of the Meet for the 12 and Under division. Logan swam his best meet of the season. He recorded five state-qualifying swims and five first-place finishes.

Emmett Hanson was selected as the Swimmer of the Meet for the 13 and Over division.  Emmett, who is new to swimming this season, swam in four new events and achieved a state-qualifying swim in his 50-meter freestyle. Emmett also anchored two relays for the Sea Lions that captured first and second-place finishes. 

Three senior swimmers — Jessica VanPeursem, Amaya Street, and Emma DeBoer — attended their final home meet. All were part of the swim team for nine or 10 years.  Twelve of the 54 Milbank Area Sea Lions that competed in the Milbank Invitational were new to the swim team this season and swam in their first swim meet.
