The Milbank 14U Junior Teeners split their doubleheader with Webster 14U on Thursday, July 1, at Pribyl Park in Milbank. Milbank was defeated by Webster in Game 1 by a score of 5-1 after great pitching performances from both teams. Milbank rallied in Game 2 to defeat Webster 14-2. 

Game 1
Webster got on the board first in Game 1 by scoring two runs in the top of the first. Milbank answered back in the bottom of the second with a run of their own when Caleb Pillatzki drew a one-out walk. Pillatzki scored when Josh Pederson hit a ball to right field to send himself to third and Pillatzki made it home from first base. It turned out to be the lone run Milbank would push across in Game 1.

Joe Schulte had quite the day on the mound. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine Webster batters. He allowed only five runs — four of which were earned.

Milbank’s offense was led by Pillatzki. He recorded two hits and scored Milbank’s one run. Pederson recorded a double and Schulte add to his winning night with a single.

Game 2
In Game 2,  the fireworks started three days before the Fourth of July! Milbank scored four runs in the bottom of the first and ten runs in the bottom of the second. The first five batters reached base for Milbank in the bottom of the first. Four of the five batters scored. They were led by Jayce Jonason, Joe Schulte, and Gage Anderson, who all hit singles. 

After Pederson had held the visitors scoreless through two innings, and going into the bottom of the second, Milbank’s offense exploded. Seven consecutive batters reached base for the locals and were retired after scoring ten runs. 

Singles from Pederson, Schulte, Anderson, and Daniel Shelstad boosted Milbank’s offense. Webster put up two runs in the top of the third, but it wasn’t enough.  Milbank defeated Webster 14-2 after three innings.

Pederson had a solid night on the mound and at the plate. He pitched three innings and allowed only two runs. He recorded five of his nine outs via the strikeout. At the plate, he reached base three times and scored three runs. Jonason, Schulte, and Anderson all recorded two hits in Milbank’s victory.
