The Milbank 14U Junior Teeners split wins in a double header against the Groton 14U Junior Teeners on July 6. Milbank was defeated 8-4 in Game 1, and they defeated Groton by a score of 5-4 in Game 2.
Game 1 In Game 1, Milbank immediately scratched the scoring column when Josh Pederson drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first. Groton also came out strong. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take the score to 5-1.
It was “de’ja’ vu all over again” in the top of the third. Milbank scored when Pederson drew another leadoff walk and scored on another wild pitch.
Carter Gloe got Milbank’s offense pumping in the top of the fourth with a single to left field. He later scored on a passed ball to bring the score to 7-3.
In the top of the fifth, Pederson walked again and scored on a passed ball to put up Milbank’s last run. Groton added one more run in the game to defeat Milbank 8-4. Pederson,
Joe Schulte, and Gloe all recorded hits for Milbank. Pederson drew three walks and scored three runs. He also recorded seven stolen bases.
Game 2 In Game 2, Milbank got on the board early again. Josh Pederson singled to start the game and came around to score when Gage Anderson grounded out to the third baseman.
Milbank scored in the top of the third when Pederson drew a leadoff walk and Nollen Sheely move him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Sheely scored when Joe Schulte reached base on an error. The score then sat at 2-1.
Milbank added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Caleb Pillatzki scored on a line-drive single from Pederson, and Pederson scored on a balk to bring the score to 4-3.
Anderson got Milbank moving in the top of the fifth with a leadoff double to left field. He scored when Schulte reached base on an error by the second baseman. This brought Milbank’s total to five runs, which was just enough. Milbank defeat Groton 5-4 in Game 2.
Pederson earned the win on the mound. He also led the way with two hits and an RBI. Anderson and Jackson Hausauer each contributed a hit on Milbank’s path to victory.
