The Legion Post 9 Baseball Team wrapped up their regular season in Lake Norden on Tuesday, July 13. Milbank won Game 1 with a score of 6-5 and Game 2 at 7-4.

Game 1 In Game 1, Milbank’s offense didn’t get their feet under them until the top of the third inning when Justus Osborn knocked in three runs with a 3 RBI double to score Merik Junker, Kellen Hoeke, and Cole Swenson. All three had reached base on walks. 

Post 9 pushed another run across in the top of the fourth to make it 5-4 when Aiden Rabe scored on a wild pitch. Milbank then took the lead in the top of the fifth. Kaden Krause grounded out to the pitcher to score Sammy Femling and Junker hit a double to left field to bring home Aiden Rabe and score the go- ahead run. Micah Dietmeier earned the win on the mound for Post 9. He pitched five innings, allowed five runs, and struck out two batters. Milbank’s offense was led by Junker, Osborn, and Rabe who tallied two hits apiece.

Game 2

In Game 2, Milbank scored their first two runs in the top of the fourth when Justus Osborn homered to left field to knot up the score at two. Isaac Schulte kept Milbank’s offense rolling in the top of the fifth. He drew a walk in his at-bat and scored on a passed ball. 

Kaden Krause scored when Cole Swenson reached base on an error by the second baseman. The run brought the score to 4-2. Merik Junker came home to score Milbank’s third run when Osborn grounded out to the second baseman. Swenson scored Milbank’s fourth and final run of the inning on another wild pitch. 

Post 9 added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Osborn scored on Stevie Ash’s single to right field. Osborn topped off his big night at the plate with a win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowed only three runs, and struck out six batters. For the offense, he recorded two hits, three RBIs, and Post 9’s first homerun of the year. Post 9 finishes the regular season at 21-5.  They play their first game of regional competition on Friday July 23, at Sisseton. Start time is 3 p.m.  Milbank will face the winner of the Castlewood-Clear Lake versus Webster game.
