The Milbank Firechiefs took on the Lake Norden Lakers in their regular season finale on Friday, July 16. Milbank won by a score of 12-2 to secure the No. 2 seed going into the district tournament. Milbank was held scoreless in the top of the first inning and surrendered one run in the bottom of the first. They pulled it together in the top of the second to chalk up four runs. 

Jonny Ash put the locals on the scoreboard when he singled to left field to score Justin Larson. Larson had reached base on a walk.  Jacob Jackson doubled to left field to score Lance Frogner and Travis Lester. Both had also drawn walks.  Ash scored when Dom Boerger reached base after an error by the shortstop. 

Frogner hit a homerun in the top of the third to put Milbank up 5-1, and the Chiefs never looked back. 
Milbank scored seven runs in the top of the fifth, and watched the score mushroom to 12-1: Frogner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring Mitch Quade home.  Quade had also been walked. Lester singled to left field to score two runs to take the score to 8-1. Ash kept the locals’ offense going with a double to centerfield. The hit brought Frogner and Lester home and the score to 10-1.  Brady Krause reached base on a walk and then traveled around the bases on a wild pitch to score Milbank’s final run of the game.  Frogner earned the win the mound. He pitched five innings, allowed only one run, and struck out six batters. Milbank’s offense was led by Jackson and Ash who recorded two hits each. Bryan Appl, Larson, Frogner, Lester, and Brady Femling added one hit apiece to Milbank’s total of nine. The Firechiefs will be back in action on Saturday July 24, in Volga. Milbank takes on Bryant in Round One of the District Tournament. Milbank plays at 2 pm.
