The Grant County 4-H Youth-in-Action Day was held on July 13. What is Youth-in-Action Day all about?

According to Sara Koepke, Grant County’s 4-H youth program advisor, young people gain hands-on experience and skills. They learn the building blocks of preparing a meal, how to properly speak to individuals or crowds, and how to appropriately create an outfit for everyday and professional occasions. Koepke says, “These are skills they need and can build on their entire life.”

The Special Foods division of the event was held at Milbank High School. Participants brought everything necessary to prepare their dish. They also designed a table setting, complete with a centerpiece. Ninety minutes was the time on the clock for them to finish their dish and set the table. Entries were judged on nutritional knowledge, food quality, technique, aesthetics, and hospitality.
