Milbank punched their ticket to the state amateur baseball tournament for the tenth straight year. In the 2021 tourney, the Firechiefs made it to the second round of play before sustaining a 5-4 loss to the Dimock-Emery Raptors on Sunday, August 8. Dimock-Emery moves on to play the Plankinton Bankers.

Raptors–5 vs. Firechiefs–4 Dimock-Emery put up three runs in the bottom of the first, but Milbank answered in the top of the third with one run of their own. Dom Boerger led off the inning with a single. He reached second base after a ball got by the catcher. When Ronnie Krause reached base on an error by the shortstop, Boerger advanced to third. Jonny Ash then grounded out to the second baseman, but Boerger managed to make it home to take the score to 3-1. 

Milbank trailed 5-1 by the end of the fifth, but rallied in the top of the sixth. Ash started the inning by reaching base on an error by the pitcher. Brady Krause reached first on a fielder’s choice to leave it up to Mitch Quade with two outs and a runner on first. 

Quade doubled up the right-center gap and B. Krause came around to score and tighten things up at 5-2. Quade scored on the next pitch when Lance Frogner singled to left field. The Firechiefs inched closer at 5-3. 

Frogner started the top of the ninth inning with a lead-off double. Justin Larson followed Frogner’s double with a single on an 0-2 count. Boerger hit a single to score Frogner and bring Milbank within striking distance at 5-4. Time ran out before Milbank could add any more runs to the board and the final score remained at 5-4. B. Krause, Frogner, and Boerger led the offense for the Firechiefs with two hits apiece. The Firechiefs finished their season with a 14-7 record.
