Eighth Graders Win First Volleyball Match of the Season

Milbank’s eighth-grade girls’ volleyball team hosted Webster Area on Thursday, August 26, at the Milbank Elementary gym. Coach Becky Johnson said, “This was our first match of the season, and Milbank won 2-1.”  

The Lady Bulldogs secured the match with set scores of 16-25, 25-19, and 25-21.  “The girls played very well today,” Coach Johnson said, “especially considering they have had only three full practices.”

Leading servers included: Kendra Roggenbuck at 11 of 13, including nine aces; Paige Korstjens at 9 of 11, including six aces; Kenadee Mueller at 7 of 7, including four aces; and Kalli Grong at 7 of 8 with four aces. Paige Korstjens also led the team with two kills. Kenadee Mueller and Megan Wiese were next with one kill apiece.

Coach Johnson said, “We have 21 eighth graders out for volleyball this year. So, we split who plays each match to get more girls playing time.”
The Lady Bulldogs eighth graders travel to Sisseton on Thursday, September 2.
