Lady Bulldogs Lose Close One to Sioux Valley

The Lady Bulldogs faced Sioux Valley in their Homecoming week match on Tuesday, September 21. Milbank was defeated 2-3, but coach Nancy Hoeke, said, “It was a thrilling Homecoming match for us as the teams seemed to be evenly matched. Set scores were 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 15-25, 14-16. 

At the end of the fifth set, we were down 10-14. Hats off to Hallie (Schulte) for keeping the ball in play with her serve. We were able to tie it up and have a chance to win.”

Hoeke noted, “There were quite a few momentum swings — it was back and forth all night. We played some of our best volleyball of the season. It came in spurts, but knowing we are capable of that level of play is exciting.”
The team’s serving percentage hit 90 percent. The Lady Bulldogs made 88 of 98, including five aces. 

Rachel Schulte led the team in serves with a perfect 15-15, including an ace. Addisyn Krause hit 17-18; Skyler Skoog 8-9; Averie Engebretson 14-16, including two aces; Casside Seezs 14-16; and H. Schulte 20-24 with one ace.
R. Schulte was also 52-62 in attacks, with an impressive 19 kills. Skoog was 30-40, with eight kills; Seezs 23-33 with seven kills; Engebretson 30-36, with five kills; Claire Snaza 24-26, with four kills; and Krause 5-8, with two kills.
Krause was also credited with 22 assists. Engebretson had 10; R. Schulte six; and Camryn Wiese had one.

H. Schulte led the team in digs with 30. R. Schulte followed with 14. Engebretson had 12; Krause nine; Seezs seven; and Emily Wollschlager five.
R. Schulte also contributed a solo block and two assisted blocks. Snaza added two assisted blocks.
Coach Hoeke added, “Rachel hit a career high 19 kills in a match. We will, of course, take more of that from her anytime!
