The Bulldogs’ cross country teams attended the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, September 25. The Lady Bulldogs competed against a field of 20 mostly high-ranking Minnesota teams and nearly 165 runners. Ashlynn Batchelor took second place in the Girls Varsity D4 with a time of 19:14.7.  Milbank brought home fourth place as a team.

Batchelor, an eighth-grader, came in right behind Jade Rypkema a junior from Nevis, who took first place with a time of 18:53.4. Grace Drietz, a senior from Canby-Minneota, came in after Batchelor at 19:19.4 in third place.

Bulldog Maurina Street was the next-highest ranking runner for Milbank. She clocked in at 21:37.4 for 30th place. Maiah Brown was 40th at 22:25.9; Tyra Berry, 40th at 22:55.9; Kynlee Speidel, 54th at 23:07.7; and Ellie Neugebauer, 86th at 23:58.4

Minnewaska took top honors as a team with 116 points. Wadena-Deer Creek was second with 141 points, and Canby-Minneota took third also with 141 points. Milbank was right behind at 144 for fourth place. The fifth-place team, South Ridge, had a distant 173 points.

For even more perspective on the Lady Bulldogs’ impressive performance, note the last place team compiled 567 points, and the last runner of the race came in with a time of 40:27.9.

MHS Coach Eric Townshend said, “This is one of the largest high school meets in the nation. It was the first time we had attended this meet and it was huge.  There were nearly 20 different races with each race featuring over 100 runners.” Next up for the Bulldog cross country teams? The Lenwood Invitational at Lennox on Thursday, September 30.
