The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Sioux Falls to compete in the 2021 Sandford Pentagon Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 25. Milbank brought home seventh place in their bracket. They suffered losses to Oldham-Ramona-Rutland (ORR) at 0-2, Howard at 0-2, and Alcester-Hudson at 0-2. They defeated Hanson 2-0. ORR went on to win the division.
Milbank – 0 vs. Oldham-Ramona-Rutland – 2

Milbank first faced Oldham-Ramona-Rutland and took the loss at 0-2. MHS coach Nancy Hoeke said, “ORR kept us off balance with their attack.” Set scores were 12-25 and 16-25.

In serving, Milbank went 26 of 29 for 90 percent, including three aces. Casside Seezs was 5-5, Hallie Schulte 4-4, Averie Engebretson 2-2, Skyler Skoog 4-5, and  Addisyn Krause 7-9, with three aces.
Rachel Schulte led the team in attacking. She recorded 13-19, with 5 kills. Skyler Skoog was 7-12, with two kills; Rylie Overby, 3-4 with two kills; and Casside Seezs 8-9, with one kill.

Addisyn Krause was 24-24, and made seven assists; Camryn Wiese 19-20, with two assists; and Averie Engebretson 4-4, with one assist.
Hallie Schulte added eight digs; Rachel Schulte, four; and Emily Wollschlager, four.

Milbank – 0 vs. Howard – 2
The Lady Bulldogs were defeated by the Lady Tigers of Howard with set scores of 34-36 and 22-25. Milbank’s serving hit 95 percent at 54 of 57, including one ace. 

Coach Nancy Hoeke commented, “Our second and third matches were closer, but we just wereen’t taking care of and doing the little things that could put us in the win column. We had moments of really good volleyball, and I believe we have what we need to be a pretty good team. So, we’ll keep talking about and trying to do the little things right more often.”

In the serving column, Skyler Skoog and Rachel Schulte both went 9-9 and Casside Seezs was also perfect at 5-5. Averie Engebretson was 12-13; Addisyn Krause 10-11; and Hallie Schulte was 9-10, with one ace.
Skyler Skoog was 29-36, and added 10 kills; Rachel Schulte 25-29, with nine kills;

Averie Engebretson 13-16, with three kills; Addisyn Krause 4-4, with one kill; and Casside Seezs 11-14, with one kill.
Addisyn Krause was 56-56, with 17 assists; Averie Engebretson 15-15, with four assists; and Camryn Wiese 18-18, with three assists.
Hallie Schulte recorded 19 digs to lead the team. Emily Wollschlager had nine; Averie Engebretson, seven; and Rachel Schulte, six.
Rylie Overby contributed two 2 assists, 2 solo; Rachel Schulte, Casside Seezs and Addisyn Krause had two assists apiece.

Milbank – 0 vs. Alcester-Hudson – 2
Set scores for the Lady Bulldogs against the Lady Cubs were 25-27 and 20-25.Milbank put up an exceptional serving percentage — they hit 45 of 46 for 98 percent, with five aces.

Addisyn Krause led the pack. She was 10-10, including three aces. Skyler Skoog was also perfect at 9-9; Rachel Schulte, perfect at 7-7, with an ace; Hallie Schulte 5-5; Casside Seezs 4-4 with an ace; Rylie Overby 4-4; Camryn Wiese 3-3; and

Averie Engebretson missed just one at 3-4. Skyer Skoog led the Bulldogs in attacks. She was 13-15, with 6 kills. Casside Seezs went 15-16, with five kills; Rachel Schulte 18-22, with five kills; Averie Engebretson, 15-16 with three kills; and Rylie Overby, 9-9, with one kill.

Addisyn Krause led the team at 35-36 and 12 assists; Averie Engebretson 15-15 , and six assists; and Camryn Wiese, 12-13 and two assists
Rachel Schulte got in her digs. She tallied nine. Rylie Overby and Emily Wollschlager each had five.
Rachel Schulte contributed a solo block and Rylie Overby and Claire Snaza each had one assisted block.

Milbank – 2 vs. Hanson – 0
The Lady Bulldogs took out the Lady Beavers of Hanson in two sets at 25-22 and 25-18. Coach Hoeke said, “The girls ended the day on a good note with the win. I’m always grateful when they keep giving effort and don’t  give up.”

At the end of the day, Milbank’s serving still reached 90 percent. They went 43 of 48, with seven aces.
Rachel Schulte had another perfect at 11-11, with three aces.  Averie Engebretson was also perfect at 5-5, with two aces. Addisyn Krause went 7-8, including one ace. Casside Seezs, 7-8; Skyler Skoog 4-5; and Tatum Berry 9-11, with one ace.

Rachel Schulte also led in attacks. She was 13-14, with five kills. Casside Seezs, 13-15 with 5 kills; Skyler Skoog, 13-18 with five kills; Rylie Overby, 6-6 with four kills; Averie Engebretson, 9-13, with two kills; and Claire Snaza, 4-5 with one kill.

Addisyn Krause was tops in assists. She went 28-28, with 12 assists. Camryn Wiese followed at 14-15, with five assists and Averie Engebretson was 11-11, with two assists.

Casside Seezs effort for Milbank resulted in 11 digs. Rachel Schulte had nine and Addisyn Krause added seven.
Rachel Schulte and Averie Engebretson also contributed one assist apiece.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team? They face Redfield on Thursday, September 30 at Milbank Elementary School. First serve is at 6 p.m. for the JV team and 7:30 p.m. for Varsity.  ***Please note there will be no C team match.
