The Lady Bulldogs defied a windchill factor of 28 degrees below zero to travel to Summit on January 18. Milbank faced the Waubay-Summit Mustangs and drove away with the glow of a 59-25 victory to keep them warm all the way home.
Coach Brian Pauli said, “The beginning of this season brought us some challenges. As a team, we have been working through them, and it was nice to put together a complete game.”
And, it was the Lady Bulldogs all the way! They held a 20-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Temperatures might have been sub-zero outside, but inside, Maurina Street’s shooting was red hot. She pumped in 28 points. Isabella Anderson was also fired up and she dropped in 12, including three three-pointers. Tyra Berry put in eight, including two three-point shots, and Josie Riveland also landed a three-pointer.
The Mustang’s offense struggled the entire game and their top shooter, Eva Benike, was their only player to make it into double figures. She had 10. Livia Tomac followed with four.
The Lady Bulldogs shot 53 percent from the floor. They landed six of six three-point shots in the first half and one of three in the second half to finish at nearly 78 percent from three-point land. They also delivered on eight of 14 from the charity stripe for 57 percent. Waubay-Summit’s shooting percentage was abysmal from everywhere but the free throw line. There, they hit five of six for just over 83 percent.
Street also led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds. She grabbed six. Tatum Berry had five, and Isabella Anderson pulled down four. Tyra Berry, Claire Snaza, Sierra Wenzl, Josie Riveland, Elsie Seffrood, and Shaylee Schuchard each nabbed one.
