The Bulldog defense held the Trojans to zero points while Bennett Schwenn and Wylie Mursu teamed up to drive in 14 points in the first... Schwenn, Mursu and Hoeke Combine for 39 Points to Take Down Ortonville

The Bulldog defense held the Trojans to zero points while Bennett Schwenn and Wylie Mursu teamed up to drive in 14 points in the first quarter of the game between Milbank and Ortonville on Monday, January 31, in Milbank.
The first stretch paved the way for Milbank to cruise to a 49-23 victory albeit with a couple of bumps along the way.  After leading 34-4 at halftime, the Bulldogs could only come up with two points in the third quarter, had little success from three-point land, and turned over the ball 14 times. But, none of that mattered when the buzzer sounded at the end of the game. The “W” went to Milbank.

Schwenn led all scorers with 23 points. Wylie Mursu put up nine and Kellen Hoeke dropped in seven. Five Bulldogs came through for two points each: Justus Osborne, Garrett Mertens, Karson Weber, Jaxson Wildung, and Tanner Hallquist.

Schwenn also added eight rebounds; Mertens yanked down seven. Osborne, Hoeke, and Wildung each brought down three. Karson Weber, Stevie Ash, Joe Schulte, and Aiden Ludvigson each grabbed one.

The Bulldogs hit 19 of 53 field goal attempts for just under 36 percent. They were one of 13 from behind the arc and 77 percent from the charity stripe.
Merritt Hunter and Owen Longnecker led the Trojans scoring with nine and eight points respectively. Carter Powell had four and Carter Brown put in two.

Powell led Ortonville with four rebounds. Longnecker, Brown, and Daunte Fetters each snagged two. Merritt and Dru Boots contributed one apiece.
The Trojans shot just 20 percent overall, including from behind the arc, but nailed down over 62 percent from the free throw line.

Score by Periods: Milbank     14     20     2     13   Total 49          Ortonville     0     4     11     8   Total 23

What’s next for the Bulldogs? Milbank visits Britton tonight,  February 3, to take on the Britton-Hecla Braves.
