Hattie Muellenbach, Hope and William Karels, Laney Florette, and Joe, and Rachel Schulte have been selected to join the 2022 South Dakota All-State Band.... Six MHS Musicians Selected for All-State Band

Hattie Muellenbach, Hope and William Karels, Laney Florette, and Joe, and Rachel Schulte have been selected to join the 2022 South Dakota All-State Band.

The 72nd Annual South Dakota All-State Band event will be held at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings on March 24-26. MHS musicians selected for the Clark band include: Senior Hattie Muellenbach as fourth chair alto sax. Hattie is the daughter of Jake and Heidi Muellenbach.Sophomore Hope Karels as third chair bass clarinet. Hope is the daughter of Jason and Susan Karels.Junior Laney Forrette as 20th chair clarinet. Laney is the daughter of Jim and Lisa Forrette. 

MHS musicians selected for the Lewis band include: Sophomore Joe Schulte as third chair euphonium. Joe is the son of Dave and Elizabeth Schulte.Senior William Karels as fourth chair tuba. William is the son of Jason and Susan Karels. Sophomore Rachel Schulte as 17th chair clarinet. Rachel is the daughter of Dave and Elizabeth Schulte. The Clark Band will be under the direction of Aaron Perrine of Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. The Lewis Band will be under the direction of Dr. Travis Cross of UCLA in California.

The members of the 2022 All State Band were selected through statewide auditions. The auditions were held at six audition centers throughout the state during the month of January.  Four adjudicators traveled to each center to select the top high school musicians.

Susan Karels serves as the band instructor for Milbank students in grades six and up. Deb Rausch assisted with the all-state lessons. The students will be accompanied to the event in Brookings by Mrs. Karels.
