Milbank Area Girls Basketball February 16, 2022 Staff 0
The 2022 Battle of the Bulldogs was a battle to the end. Well, almost. At the end of three, Milbank led 33-28, but Madison refused to go away in the close non-conference game on Milbank’s home court on February 15.
In the fourth quarter, Milbank’s Isabella Anderson took charge and pumped in 10 points — including critical free throws to cushion their lead and seal the deal. Anderson finished with 13 points. She downed 8 of 10 free throws, snagged nine rebounds, and made two steals.
Maurina Street earned a double-double for Milbank. Street racked up 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and pulled off four steals, before she left the game prematurely with five fouls.
Claire Snaza posted seven points and seven rebounds. Tatum Berry dropped in seven points, wrangled five rebounds, and managed a steal. Tyra Berry had eight points, one rebound, a steal, and two assists.
Milbank hit 37.5 percent of their field goals and 72 percent of their free throws.
Madison’s two top scorers, Zoey Gerry and Audrey Nelson, combined for 31 points. Gerry had 17 and five rebounds. Nelson had 14 points, a rebound, and four steals. Nelson also fouled out. Madison connected on only 20 percent of their field goals and 63 percent of their free shots.
Neither team had much luck from downtown. Anderson made Milbank’s only three-point shot. Nelson hit two from beyond the arc for Madison, but she missed five. Gerry, was 0-5.
