Hope Karels and Logan Dexter, two MALST swimmers, attended the 2022 State B Championship Meet in Sioux Falls during the weekend of February 18-20. Their goal was to add events to their repertoire at the State A Championship meet. Coach Emily Bjordahl reported both swimmers were successful!
Karels competed in the 200-meter freestyle event and placed second. This earned her a spot in the competition at the State A tournament. She also placed third in the 200 IM by dropping four seconds from her time.
Coach Bjordahl said, “Hope placed second in the 500-meter freestyle. She dropped an amazing seven seconds and was just .1 second behind the leader. It earned her a spot in this event at the State A meet. She took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle, byagain cutting seven seconds from her time and to also gain a berth in the event at the State A tournament. In the 100-meter breastroke, she placed third by shaving off 2.82 seconds for a new personal best time. She took sixth in the 100 meter backstroke.
Logan Dexter placed first in both the 100-meter breaststroke and the 50-meter freestyle to qualify for both of these events at the State A Championship. He also earned a State A qualifying time in the 100 IM by taking sixth place. Dexter also swam the 50-meter butterfly and dropped six seconds from his time.
