Lady Bulldogs Lose in Quarterfinals

The Lady Bulldogs lost a close contest during their Region 1A quarterfinal game against third-seeded Groton Area. The two teams met on neutral ground in Sisseton on Thursday, February 24. Milbank maintained the lead until the Lady Tigers surged ahead late in the game, and the Lady Bulldogs were unable to fend them off. Milbank took the loss at 36-40.

Maurina Street and Tyra Berry combined to rack up 29 points for Milbank. Street had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Berry put up 12. The Lady Bulldogs maintained a lead and were ahead by as much as 10 points until two minutes to go in the third quarter, when the Tigers decided to pounce. They clawed their way to within four at the end of the three and tied things up with just over two minutes to go in the game. With 48 seconds to go, Groton held a five-point lead. 

In the last minute, though, the Lady Tigers stumbled at the free throw line and missed three attempts. Although the Lady Bulldogs gained control of the ball on the rebound, they just couldn’t get the ball to go through the hoop before the final buzzer sounded.  The loss ended the Lady Bulldogs’ season.

Florence-Henry, who defeated Webster Area, and Sisseton, who won their game against Groton Area punched their tickets to the SoDak 16.
