Savanna Osowski, senior Milbank Area Lions Swim Team (MALST) swimmer, took second place in the 1000-yard Freestyle event during the 2022 South Dakota State A Swim... Osowski and Wellnitz Earn Medals at State Swim Meet

Savanna Osowski, senior Milbank Area Lions Swim Team (MALST) swimmer, took second place in the 1000-yard Freestyle event during the 2022 South Dakota State A Swim Championships for swimmers 13 and over. The meet took place at the Mitchell Recreational Center from March 4-6.
Osowski earned her second-place medal by dropping 11 seconds from her time. She also placed and received medals in each event she entered. She plans to continue her swimming career on the swim team at Augustana University in the fall. William and Hope Karels also qualified for and competed in the State A meet.

TyLynn Wellnitz earned an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter Freestyle at the 2022 State Championships for 12-and-under swimmers. The tournament took place in Pierre from February 25-27.  After cutting times in all her events, she turned on the power in her last event to earn a place on the podium for a medal.

MALST swimmers, who qualified for and attended the 12-and-under state meet, included: TyLynn Wellnitz, Bryton Blauert, Timbree Spors, Jada Leigh Wellnitz, Adrienne Korth, Logan Dexter, and Ryan Steffen.

The two state meets were the culmination of the MALST’s winter season. Coach Emily Bjordahl said, “All of these swimmers worked so hard and I am really proud of how well they finished out this season.”
