On Friday, May 6, the Bulldogs’ tennis team traveled to the Pierre Invitational. Eight teams competed.
In the consolation championship, Will Snaza claimed fifth place, and Charles Whitesitt took sixth place. In doubles play, Isaiah Korstjens and Snaza earned fourth place and Whitsitt and Gregory Grabow took sixth.
Rapid City Christian won the team championship with a total 370 points. Sioux Falls Christian was next with 237 points. The Pierre Governors took third place with 235 points.
Abbey Trapp, head coach for Milbank, said, “Overall, the boys played great and were able to win and compete with some of the top schools in Class A. I can’t wait for state tournament next weekend. These boys will do great things!”
The tournament in Pierre on Friday, came on the heels of the match Milbank played on Thursday, May 5. The boys hosted Spearfish at Cantine Courts. The Spartans defeated the Bulldogs 6-3.
In singles play, Isaiah Korstjens, playing at No.1 for Bennet Street, beat Austin O’Bryan 10-1. Will Snaza at No. 5 also took down Leo Isburg 10-5.
Joe Schulte at No. 2 was defeated by Rudy Isburg 5-10. Gregory Grabow at No. 3 was defeated by Bridger Meyer 2-10. Charles Whitesitt at No. 4 went down against Lucas Rodgers 6-10, and Daniel Shelstad lost to Shawn Cota 2-10. In doubles play, Grabow ad Whitesitt defeated O’Bryan and R. Isburg. Scores from that match- up were 10-4 (7-5). Schulte and Shelstad (who replaced Bennet Street) were defeated by Meyer and Rodgers 1-10. Snaza and Korstjens were defeated by L. Isburg and Cota at 4-10.
