The biannual Grant County 4-H Bike Rodeo and Safety Day will be held on Friday, May 20, at the Grant County 4-H Grounds. The event is free for kindergarteners through fifth-graders and runs from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Registration is required.

The bike rodeo and safety day is organized by Grant County 4-H member, William Karels. Karels says, “Milbank has a large number of bikers in the summer months, and it is important that all these youth have helmets and know how to safely ride around town. We are also continuing our helmet incentive program. So, any youth wearing a bike helmet around town will be given an ice cream coupon!”

The event will feature a series of educational sessions, including a bike helmet fitting, bike check, bike handling, first aid, and a bike ride.  The group will be aided by the Milbank City Police, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Grant-Roberts Ambulance Service, Milbank Area Hospital-Avera, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

In addition, lunch will be served and prizes will be given away. Two participants will each win a bike donated by United Hardware.
Karels says, “Numerous sponsors make this bike rodeo successful, including First Bank & Trust, Great Western Bank, Thrivent Financial, and Catholic United Financial Parish Volunteer Team St. Anthony/St. Monica of Rosen, Minnesota.”
